Manifesto

Our Philosophy

We create products that are robust, simple, easy to open and repair, aesthetic, and built to last.

Our ambition : change the way we relate to objects. To relearn how to maintain, understand, and repair them by making technology open, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.

We aim to foster learning, mutual support, and sharing around friendly, long-lasting objects.

In doing so, we help reduce electronic waste and preserve scarce natural resources.

Origins of the Open Printer Project

The Open Printer project was born from the convergence of several influences.

First, a profound shift in how we view technological progress and the modern world — inspired by readings such as The Meadows Report (Donella and Dennis Meadows), The Age of Low Tech (Philippe Bihouix), and On the Mode of Existence of Technical Objects (Gilbert Simondon).

Then came the discovery of Impro, a project imagined by designer Paul Morin in 2018 — a concept for a large-format, wall-mounted and repairable plotter.

Finally, the incredible international maker community — including the work excellent of YTEC and Jeroen Domburg, also known as Sprites Mods.

These influences and works marked the starting point of the Open Printer adventure.
